Co-existence: Salmon Memories from AlaskaI was in Stewart, Alaska, along with many thousands of Chinook salmon, and a dozen or so grizzly bears all mingling together amongst several hundred people. I thought that this was a very natural co-existence of species that have been sharing the coastal habitat for millennia. This also reminded me that we as a species have decimated many runs of salmon and eliminated much of the grizzly’s habitat. Hopefully we will come to our senses soon and preserve both salmon and grizzly, and ultimately—ourselves. Submitted by Gary Searing, Saanich, BC. Posted by Aileen Penner on 1/8/07
